Kashipur

Kashipur palace is one of the most attractive architectures of Purulia. It was built in 1916 at Kashipur (Kashipur Block), the capital of the state of Panchakot in erstwhile Purulia. King Jyotiprasad Singh Deo of Panchakot was a very successful king and took his kingdom to new heights. This palace, built under his supervision, involved artisans from the USA and cost Rupees 32,00,000.
King Jyotiprasad Singh Deo patronized learned scholars and musicians in his court. Veda Vidhalaya, a school of Sanskrit education that existed here was famous across the country. “Brihat Jhumur Rasamanjari”, the first book on Jhumur written by famous Jhumur poet, Bhabapritananda Ojha (court poet) was published from here.
Michael Madhusudan Dutta, the great poet of Bengal worked as a manager at the estates during the reign of Nilmoni Singh Deo's reign (grandfather of Jyotiprasad Singh Deo).
