Deulghata Purulia

Among the temples and sculptures that date back to the Pal (750 A.D to 1155 A.D) and Sen (1095 A.D to 1225 A.D) dynasties, few stand intact in Deulghata (Joypur Block), located on the bank of Kansabati river, near Joypur. There are two big temples of burnt brick showing significant influence of Jain style of architecture. Bautifully carved stone figures of Mahishamardini, Durga, Parvati, Ganesh, Ranachandi etc. are found here. The walls of t hese temples are engraved with intricate designs of flowers, fruits, creepers, leaves, birds, Kirtimukh etc.that have all been damaged by wind erosion and are hardly visible today.
