Bengal's Patachitra is now admired around the world. The artists of Naya village in Pingla of West Midnapore have made it famous internationally. The Patua village of Chandipur in East Midnapore is now ready to follow the footsteps of Naya. They too have learnt how to work together and use natural colours. The Patachitra hub of Chandipur is now included in the West Bengal Government's Rural Craft and Cultural Hubs project in 2016, which is a flagship initiative in association with UNESCO. Skill-building sessions are already underway. Many artists are participating in events and festivals in different cities. Chandipur is also witnessing footfalls of foreign tourists.
The artists of Chandipur will host Patachitra Mela on Jan 11-13, 2019. You are cordially invited to this village mela. You may choose to make it a day trip or spend the night at Digha, a few miles away. One can interact with the artists personally at the fair, participate in workshops and enjoy the folk music and dance performances in the evenings. Welcome to Chandipur!!
