Thanem is a small village near Valpoi, in Sattari taluka of North Goa. Its hilly landscape is surrounded by dense forests. Visitors can enjoy the view of the Western Ghats from Thanem.
The village has two unique hidden treasures; its traditional Bamboo Craft and folk dance 'Dhalo'. Almost all women here are involved with the bamboo craft traditionally along with their agricultural activities.
The traditional bamboo items like Supli (used to screen and separate grains), Pantulo (small basket), Coro (mat for covering the roof), Londe (lidless box) are used in their daily lives and religious activities which make interesting souvenirs for the visitors.
Dhalo is the celebration of Mother Nature through the dance. It includes songs about nature, its beauty and deities.
Valpoi, 9 kms away from Thanem, is the connecting point to reach Thanem. Buses are available from Panjim to Valpoi. From Valpoi, it is another bus ride to Thanem. One can also hire a taxi to reach there.
